SD cards are used as memory storage devices for cell phones, digital cameras, and personal computers. They are often the size of a postage stamp, or smaller. An SD card holder can be used to store memory cards when not in use. Choosing the best SD card holder will usually depend upon the size of the SD card and the number of cards that must be stored.

Different SD cards can be used to keep photos and information organized. When not in use, they need to be stored in an SD card holder that is free from debris and moisture-resistant. An SD memory card will often have a small bit of metal visible on its exterior. This metal is the contact point between the card and the corresponding digital device. If these metal contacts are damaged by debris or water, they may not work and information may not be accessible.

The number of SD cards that need to be stored will typically determine the size of the SD card holder. The smallest models can be carried on a key chain, with larger versions being sold as small flip books or plastic cases that snap closed. Key chain holders and snap cases most often hold only one SD memory card. Flip cases can hold two or more SD cards, and range in size. Smaller flip cases are often the size of business cards, with larger cases resembling small address books.

Micro-SD cards are most commonly used in cell phones. These are very small and may require an adapter to be used with personal computers, which can pull data from the cards. Micro memory card cases may include a slot for the micro-SD card and the adapter. Most often, the adapter is the size of a standard SD card.

Hard SD card cases can also be purchased to hold up to 12 SD cards. These are generally created from hard, molded plastic and feature a zip enclosure. Inside, plastic sheets are used to separate the SD cards. These cases are ideal for storing a large number of memory cards. The plastic can be marked to identify the data stored on each card.

Some SD card storage containers serve a dual purpose as a card holder and a card reader. These devices can store SD cards and connect to a personal computer by use of a USD cable. Cards can then be read, and information pulled from card memory, while remaining in the SD card holder.

I have to keep multiple SD cards with me at all times because all of my gadgets need a different type of SD card. I've had to change my cell phone three times and ended up getting a different brand each time and a different type of SD card for each. My camera and mp3 player require different ones as well. I've got six or seven different SD cards, all with different data in them.

I have to have an SD card holder for them or I would lose them very easily, I'm already pretty disorganized. Even more than losing the data, I would be sad about having to buy more cards because they are pretty expensive, I don't want to keep spending money on that. I've ended up getting a flip case that has different shapes and sizes for different ones. All of my SD cards fit in it even though some are smaller and some are larger. It's a good way to keep it together.

Maybe all brands will one day require the same kind of SD card and we won't have to keep so many with us. But until then, there is going to be an increased demand for SD card holders.

I have a tiny SD card holder that hangs on my cell phone. I have two SD cards for my phone because there was just so much music and pictures that I wanted to keep. I've found a solution by keeping one inside the phone and the other strapped to my phone. Whichever one I need music or pictures from, I put that in. It's not hard to carry either because it is so small and it's in the shape of a little man so it looks like a cell phone charm. No one even notices that there is an SD card in it!
