How Do I Choose the Best Cold Cream?

When choosing the best cold cream for you, it is best to ask people for recommendations, that way you can save both time and money.

I would even go as far as to ask people that I am closest to if I could try out their cold cream, that way you can at least get a feel for each of the products. That way, you don't have to spend money on a product you may only use once and then have to give away or throw away if it does not work out for you.

Once you find a cream you like, that does all the things needed to be done, stick to it. It seems like skin likes consistency. The more you change products up, at least on your skin, probably the more sensitive and irritated your skin will get. You do not want to end up not being able to use any cold creams because you kept switching to a new one every week.

@Monika - I had heard of cold creams, but I did not know what exactly they were until I read this article also!

I don't wear make-up much, and when I do it is only eye make-up, so I don't have much of a need for cold cream though.

I just recently bought my first tube of waterproof mascara, as I usually go for the regular kind so it would be easy to remove.

Since I got the waterproof mascara, I got some eye make-up remover because I wanted to be able to take the mascara off at the end of the day. Although the make-up remover is hypoallergenic, it still irritates my eyes a little bit.

I think from now on I am going to stick to regular mascara, so I don't have to worry about paying extra for eye makeup remover and whether the makeup remover is going to irritate my eyes or not.

@Sara007 - I actually like Nivea cold cream, but have found that Ponds cold cream cleanser does a better job of removing makeup. It also makes a pretty good moisturizer for dry sensitive skin.

I think that even if you are using a variety of products it should be fine. All you have to worry about is if your skin reacts poorly. What I do is use a product for a week and see if there is any change in my skin. If it gets worse I throw out the product, if it stays the same or gets better I keep trying on it.

Has anyone tried out Nivea cold cream? Did you find it was a good moisturizer for dry sensitive skin?

I have been looking for a decent cold cream for awhile now and have run into trouble with some of the cold creams either irritating my skin or making it dry out. I am not willing to give up wearing makeup but have heard some good things about Nivea.

I also use a face cleanser to combat acne and a line of products which include a toner. I am a bit worried I might be doing too much to my skin which is making cold creams too harsh.

@andee - Yes, they still make Noxzema. It is still a reasonably priced cold cream, although I think they have made some improvements and revisions over the years. You can find it at just about any retail store.

It seems like no matter what kind of cold cream I use to take off my makeup, I still need to use some kind of toner to remove all traces of dirt and makeup.

I have even tried some different kinds of organic cold cream, and still like to follow up with a gentle toner and a cotton ball to make sure all my makeup is removed.

There is nothing better than an extremely clean face before going to bed or before putting my makeup on in the morning.

KaBoom - You are right when you say that most of the cold creams are filled with chemicals - even most of the expensive, name brand ones.

I remember using my first cold cream when I was a teenager, and it was Noxzema. Even though it has been years since I used this, I can still remember it's distinctive smell and feel that cold cream as I applied it to my face.

I wonder if they still make this? After using this for a few years, I thought I would use something a little better like Ponds dry skin cream. Little did I know at the time that there really wasn't much difference - just the name of the brand.

Now that I am much more aware of the products I use on my skin, I use natural cleansers from health and nutrition companies that don't use harsh chemicals and additives in their products.

Products like Ponds cold cream sound great in theory. However, most cold creams are full of a bunch of chemicals and additives that aren't very good for your skin. I try to steer clear of products like this.

Instead of using cold cream, I used coconut oil. It works great for taking off makeup and moisturizing your skin. And, there's pretty much only one ingredient in it: coconuts. I think it would be good for someone with sensitive skin also, because of the lack of chemicals.

@Monika - I think one of the reasons you think of cold cream as something older ladies use is that unscented cold cream just isn't that popular these days. I'm in my mid-twenties and I don't really know anyone my age (besides myself) who uses cold cream.

In fact, I got the idea from my grandma! My mom doesn't even use cold cream.

However, this doesn't make cold cream any less effective. I think it's great! I would urge you to give it a try.

I've heard of cold cream, but I had no idea what the different cold cream uses actually were until now. For some reason I thought it was something older ladies used to prevent or treat wrinkles! I have no clue where I got that idea from.

Anyway, I have really sensitive skin so I'm prone to breakouts. However, I'm also quite lazy. I forget to take my makeup off all the time! I hate how makeup remover makes my skin feel! It really dries my already dry skin out even more. I've been looking for an alternative that won't do that, and I think cold cream might fit the bill.

I'm definitely going to look for cold cream formulated especially for sensitive skin though. I don't want to create any more problems for myself with my skin than I already have.

I suppose you could say I’m a bit vain, but I can’t help to believe that we should take extra good care tof the one part of our body that people look at the most; our faces.

As a result, I take more care when choosing products like cold creams. I want to provide the very best that I can for my face. That has proven difficult, however, since I have extremely sensitive skin.

I have found that even some of the mildest cold creams actually break my face out terribly, or make it red and puffy. I’m very fair-skinned, and I’ve heard that this is a part of my problem.

Although I knew to only get a hypoallergenic type of cold cream cleansers from the get go, I still have to be quite choosy between even those. I find that the one’s with less alcohol in them, as well as the fragrance free kinds, are better for me.

I’ve tried all kinds of cold creams to help remove makeup, but it has not been an easy task. It seems that the best kinds and brand names are astronomically priced. So, during times when my budget has been strained, I’ve been forced to go with cheaper brands.

I will say that although there is some difference between the generics available and the more well-known brands in terms of how effective they are, there isn’t enough to keep me content paying full price for the higher priced cold creams.

In other words, I have found that the store brand cold creams are usually about half the price and actually do perform nearly as well as the name brands. However, the name brands often have a creamier texture which I'm willing to pay a little bit more for.

However, a 'little bit' isn't the same as 'twice as much.' Now, I only by those fancy names when I have coupons to go with them.
