I'm sure the hotel and motel industries have changed since I worked as a night auditor, but back when I was working in that position the main requirement was getting your foot in the door. What I mean by this is that the hotel where I worked was often in need of someone with math and organizational skills to fill the position.
When I started, I had worked as a front desk clerk at another hotel for a few months, and that was my experience. I know several people who worked as relief night auditors on the weekends when they were in college.
Adjusting to the overnight shift was challenging and I never fully adjusted, but where I worked, napping was tolerated as long as I completed my work each night.
