When it comes to the task of refinishing appliances, many homeowners are not sure where to begin. The fact is that it is possible to refinish appliances by following a few simple guidelines. Using them, even a novice can refinish a refrigerator, an oven, or other major kitchen appliances.

Using the refrigerator as an example, the first rule to refinish appliances is to clean the surface thoroughly. Make sure that all dirt, dust, and grease are removed from the surface that is about to be refinished. There are two reasons for this step. First, appliance paint is not going to adhere properly if there is a film trapped between the paint and the actual refrigerator. Second, removing grease and dirt will make it easier to spot any rust spots that may be developed over time. Painting refrigerators, or painting appliances of any type, require a rust free surface. If there is rust on the refrigerator, sand off the rust before attempting to apply any paint to the surface.

Next, use painter’s tape to cover any areas that you do not want to receive the appliance paint. Do not use regular masking tape or duct tape. Painter’s tape is easy to apply and will stay in place for the duration of the project. Unlike other forms of tape, it will not leave a residue or damage the surface when it is time to remove the tape. If the task is to refinish appliances, there is no need to create another project where it is necessary to repair damage caused by using the wrong type of tape.

One last important point to remember has to do with using the right kind of paint when you refinish appliances. Do not attempt to use wall paint. It is also not a good idea to use aerosol cans of paint as well. While some aerosol paints will do a decent job, they will lack the professional appearance that appliance paint will provide. Use a standard paint sprayer and it will be easier to control the texture of the coat of paint. Don’t be upset if one coat does not cover completely. There is an excellent chance a second coat will be necessary, especially if you are attempting to refinish appliances by using a color that is lighter than the original shade. With a little attention to detail and some patience, it is possible to refinish appliances that will look great and last for many years to come.

Where do I buy appliance paint for an electric oven that is pink and I need to paint white or black?

It doesn't say what kind of paint to use or where to get it.
