What Is the wiseGEEK Writing Contest?

wiseGEEK Writing Contest

Since 2003, wiseGEEK has been dedicated to providing clear answers to common questions. To celebrate publishing its 10,000th article in the spring of 2007, wiseGEEK sponsored the wiseGEEK writing contest. Even though it's not related to Math subjects like algebra or calculus, it's a great way to measure the English writing proficiency of all the people who joined the contest. It's a wonderful decision, since the contest gave way to several exceptional entries that all deserve recognition. The contest opened up the writing of its articles to its users. It allowed talented individuals whether they have writing tutors to provide them guidance or not, to showcase their skills in writing. Contestants were asked provide their own short, clear answers to questions of their own choice. It's amazing how the entries all read like advanced middle school level or even college level English with exceptional structure and solid points. They were all fun to read and choosing a winner was difficult. Many great submissions were received and after careful deliberation, $10,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the top 11 submissions! Winning articles and other contest submissions are listed below. Although not indicative of how much these states spend on education, the winners show the areas where good writers come from. It's refreshing to see that the US has some skilled writers worthy of recognition. The articles are about a wide range of topics not just limited to English, but are made possible by proficiency in the language. There are Science topics, Math topics, and other miscellaneous topics discussed which showcased the skills of all the participants.
