Are Halloween Pet Costumes a Thing?

Americans spent nearly $330 million US dollars (USD) on pet costumes in 2013. This is a small number compared to the almost $6.9 billion USD Americans spent on all Halloween candy, decorations and costumes in 2013. The popularity of pet costumes and clothing, not only during Halloween, continues to grow as more shopping outlets such as Spirit, Target, PetCo, and various other retailers begin to offer them.

More about spending on pets:

  • In 2013, Americans spent over $55 billion USD on their pets. This includes costs of pet sitters, groomers, food, training, and more.

  • According to American Pet Products Association (APPA) 2013 data, cats and dogs are still the most popular pets with and estimated 95.6 million cats and 83.3 million dogs.

  • Americans spent over $21 billion in 2013 for pet food, making it the largest pet purchase of the year.
